How Does Cataract Surgery Work?

Cataract Surgery WorksCataract surgery is one of the safest, most predictable, and most common surgeries performed in modern medicine. If cataracts are interfering with your eyesight, our experienced Dallas cataract surgeon Dr. Brooks can restore clear, undistorted vision by removing the cloudy natural lens in your eye and replacing it with a lens implant.

Dr. Brooks performs no-stitch cataract surgery using a high-frequency ultrasonic device that breaks up your cloudy lens into tiny pieces, which are then gently removed from the eye’s surface. This process is called phacoemulsification. Once your lens has been removed, a clear lens implant – also called an intraocular lens (IOL) – is positioned into place.

We offer several different types of lens implants that can address a wide range of refractive disorders, including myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. It may take some time for your visual system to fully adjust to your new lens implant, but once it does, you will be able to enjoy clear, colorful vision once again. In fact, many of our patients are able to see better with their lens implants than they did even before their cataracts formed.  Additionally, after cataract surgery, you can have the confidence of knowing that your cataracts will not return since they cannot grow on an artificial lens.
