Will Insurance Pay for my Premium Lens Implant?
Cataract surgery entails the removal and replacement of your eye’s natural lens. Many insurance companies cover the full cost of this procedure, but some will stop short of covering premium lens implants. The best way to find out what types of lenses are covered by your insurance plan is by contacting them to review your policy. We work directly with a number of insurance companies and would be happy to submit paperwork for you, but knowing what your policy covers ahead of time can help prevent unpleasant surprises.
The Benefits of Premium Lenses
All IOLs can be used to restore vision to an extent, and all IOLs are impervious to future clouding. However, only premium IOLs can restore vision at a range of distances and potentially eliminate your dependence on eyeglasses or contact lenses. Even when complete freedom from prescription eyewear is not possible, premium lenses are better able to ensure greater visual acuity and are generally the most effective choice for our patients.
If your insurance plan will not cover premium lens implants, you may wish to consider using your HSA or FSA or using one of the many financing solutions offered by Dr. Brooks. These things can be discussed in greater detail during your cataract surgery consultation.
