Tecnis® Multifocal IOL

Tecnis Difractive Aspheric
At Brooks Eye Associates, Dr. Brooks and our team of eye care professionals are helping set the standard in cataract removal and lens implant technology. In addition to our exciting Symfony IOL, we also offer patients the proven benefits of the Tecnis® Multifocal intraocular lens implant. As the name implies, it is designed to provide patients with multiple ranges of clear vision and reduce your need for prescription glasses after cataract surgery.

Unlike a traditional monofocal (single focus) lens which only corrects vision at distance, the Tecnis Multifocal IOL provides high-quality eyesight at near, intermediate, and distance. It’s specially designed by AMO for people with active lifestyles who enjoy reading, playing sports, using their mobile devices, or other activities that require vision at various distances.

According to the most recent AMO statistics, 9 out of 10 patients with the Tecnis Multifocal lens never have to wear glasses after the procedure. And when 94% of patients indicated they would choose to have the Tecnis Multifocal implanted again if given a choice.

Much like the Symfony IOL, the Technis Multifocal IOL is also approved by Medicare and the insurance industry. It is simply not fully covered by Medicare or your insurance, meaning you will experience out-of-pocket expenses for this premium IOL. And as with all surgical procedures performed, there are inherent risks and possible complications that can occur when implanting the Technis Multifocal IOL. Some patients may also experience an adjustment period to their new lenses in which they encounter a glare or halos around bright light. This usually goes away over a period of weeks or months.

The Procedure

The natural lens in your eye is removed through a tiny incision on the surface of the cornea. The Tecnis Multifocal lens is then inserted to permanently replace the cataract-impaired lens. The procedure takes 5-10 minutes, and most patients notice improved vision within a few days.

Who is a candidate for the Tecnis® Multifocal Lens?

If you have been diagnosed with cataracts, you may be a candidate for the Tecnis Multifocal IOL. Whether you choose the Tecnis Multifocal Lens or another multifocal lens depends on your personal preference, lifestyle, and the health of your eyes. The best way to find out if you are a candidate is to schedule a consultation.
