AcrySof® ReSTOR® IOL

In addition to our Symfony extended depth of focus IOL and our Technis Multifocal IOL, Dr. Brooks also performs advanced cataract surgery featuring the AcrySof® ReSTOR® IOL.

Manufactured by Alcon, Inc. in nearby Fort Worth, the ReSTOR IOL was one of the first multi-focal IOLs implanted by Dr. Brooks. It too is designed for people with active lifestyles who want to enjoy clear vision at all distances with little or no dependence on corrective eyewear.

In early clinical studies, nearly 80% of patients receiving the AcrySof ReSTOR IOL reported never wearing glasses for any activities. With the AcrySof ReSTOR IOL they were able to read books and small print, work on their computers and tablets and drive in both daytime and nighttime with increased freedom from glasses. Patients also reported that sporting activities like golf, tennis were improved and were so pleased that nearly 94% of patients said they would have the AcrySof ReSTOR IOL implanted again if given the choice.

Symfony & ReSTOR TORIC LENSES FOR ASTIGMATISM

The latest breakthroughs in our lens implant technology are the additions of both a Symfony Toric IOL and a ReSTOR Toric IOL. What this means for you is the ability for Dr. Brooks to not only implant an IOL to give you a broader range of clear vision after cataract surgery, but also an IOL that will correct your Astigmatism at the same time.

Our new ReSTOR and Symfony Toric IOLs are extremely popular with patients and doctors, but not everyone is an ideal candidate for these lenses. Extensive diagnostics and measurements will determine if you qualify.

THE BENEFITS OF OUTPATIENT CATARACT SURGERY

Dr. Brooks performs the majority of his cataract procedures in the comfort, safety, convenience and cost-savings of a Medicare-approved outpatient surgery center. His cataract procedures require just a few hours of your time from start to finish. In most cases, Dr. Brooks uses only topical anesthesia (eye drops) to numb your eye during your brief procedure. Most patients remain awake and comfortable during their procedure and experience little if any discomfort.

HOW WE PERFORM YOUR CATARACT PROCEDURE

Depending on what type of cataract removal method chosen by Dr. Brooks, he will first make a microscopic incision to enable him to use either a Femtosecond laser or Phacoemulsification to gently break up your cataract. This also enables Dr. Brooks to remove the tiny fragments of your cataract through the same incision. Once your cataract has been removed, Dr. Brooks will implant the appropriate IOL based on pre-operative calculations of your entire visual system…and your lifestyle. The IOL of choice will then be inserted through the same self-healing microscopic incision.

After Dr. Brooks finishes your surgical procedure – which is often less than 15 minutes – you will be escorted into our post-operative area to rest a short while, enjoy fruit juice and a lite snack before going home.

Dr. Brooks will typically examine your eyes within 24 hours of your procedure. Our team will give you a prescription for eye drops to use to guard against infection and help your eye heal. For a few days, you may need to wear a protective shield – especially at night – to prevent you from rubbing your eye. Everyone heals somewhat differently, but most patients see well enough to return to most of their routine activities the day after surgery. Once both eyes have been treated, you will fully appreciate the benefits of your IOL and enjoy the type of crisp, clear vision that you once only dreamed of!
