Macular Degeneration Treatment

Macular Degeneration Treatment

Macular degeneration is an eye disease that typically occurs later in life, particularly for those that are over 65. It happens when the layer of your retina, the macula, deteriorates. When this happens, you may experience the following symptoms:

  • Fuzzy vision
  • Distorted vision
  • Difficulty reading
  • Colors seem faded
  • Overall difficulty seeing

There are two types of macular degeneration – dry and wet. Dry macular degeneration occurs when your macula cells begin to die which can cause blurred central vision but may not affect your peripheral vision. Wet macular degeneration is when the blood vessels under your retina swell which causes your eyes to leak fluid and blood.

There is no treatment that can reverse dry macular degeneration, but there are combinations of vitamins that may help to reduce the disease’s progression. Our experienced team can help determine the best supplements for you.

Wet macular degeneration can’t be cured either, but an early diagnosis can help to slow its effects. There are some medications that can help stop the blood vessels from expanding and can help to reduce the effects and progression of the disease.

Macular degeneration seems to develop once a person reaches the age of 45 and early detection can help prevent it from spreading to the point of complete vision loss.
