Laser Vision Correction
Poor vision can affect nearly every aspect of your life. Although glasses and contact lenses correct refractive disorders – such as myopia (nearsightedness) or astigmatism – you may have activities, hobbies, or even a profession where eyewear is a hindrance and a hassle. Laser vision correction can provide you with a clear, sharp vision that requires little to no dependence on glasses or contacts. To find out if you are a candidate for laser vision correction, call us today at (972) 736-9347 to schedule a screening.
LASIK Eye Surgery
LASIK is a life-changing procedure that can provide you freedom from or reduce your dependence on glasses and contact lenses. At Brooks Eye Associates, we offer iLASIK (Intra-LASIK) – the most advanced form of LASIK eye surgery available today.
Dr. Brooks first maps each unique imperfection in your eyes using CustomVue™ technology, ensuring your treatment is fully customized for the best results possible. During iLASIK, the innovative IntraLase™ laser is used to create a thin flap in your cornea. Then, an excimer laser is used to reshape your cornea using the “map” created by CustomVue, precisely correcting your specific refractive disorder(s).
PRK Eye Surgery
Most people are good candidates for LASIK. However, if you have especially thin corneas, our doctors may recommend PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) instead.
PRK is quite similar to LASIK, using a targeted excimer laser to re-shape your cornea in order to improve the focusing power of your eyes. The main difference is that instead of creating a hinged corneal flap, PRK removes the skin cells on the top of the cornea. This layer will re-grow a few days after the procedure.
PRK results are comparable to LASIK, but it may take a bit longer for your eyes to heal since the outermost (epithelial) layer of your cornea requires a few days to regenerate.
Which Type of Laser Vision Correction is Right for You?
Our doctors will perform a comprehensive eye exam to help determine which laser procedure would provide you with the best and safest results.
If you are not a candidate for laser vision correction at all, we may recommend an alternative approach to vision correction, such as an Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) or a procedure called Refractive Lens Exchange.
If you are ready to restore your eyesight through laser vision correction, please contact Brooks Eye Associates or call (972) 736-9347 today to schedule your iLASIK screening. We serve patients in North Texas, including Plano, Frisco, and Dallas.
