LASIK Eye Surgery
in Plano, TX
If you’re tired of the hassle and cost associated with wearing glasses and contacts, LASIK may be the solution for you. At Brooks Eye Associates, our team uses the most advanced LASIK technology and surgical procedures to give you clear vision – without glasses or contacts.
What is LASIK Surgery?
Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) is a procedure for permanent vision correction. LASIK can address a variety of refractive errors that cause blurry vision at varying distances, such as myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism, freeing patients from a lifetime of corrective eyewear.
LASIK is popular because of its remarkably high success rate and level of patient satisfaction. Approximately 700,000 LASIK surgeries are performed every year, making it one of the most commonly performed elective procedures in the country.
Plano Laser Eye Surgery: How Does It Work?
Refractive disorders occur when the cornea – the outer, clear part of the eye – is misshapen. This makes it difficult for your eyes to focus light properly and results in blurry vision. LASIK is a form of laser eye surgery which uses a cool excimer laser to reshape the cornea, allowing for better, sharper focusing.
Premier LASIK Technology in Plano
Our board-certified ophthalmologist and refractive surgery specialist, Dain B. Brooks, M.D., uses iLASIK to provide patients with the best possible results. iLASIK is an advanced, bladeless method for vision correction that uses a combination of some of the most advanced LASIK technologies available:
- Ziemer Z6: a femtosecond laser that uses Ziemer’s spectral domain OCT technology for real-time imaging of the eye. This laser is capable of computer-assisted, ultra-precise motion, adjusting for even the tiniest variations or prior surgery scars in a patient’s eyes. It even docks to the face using patient-adaptive interfacing systems.
- Nidek EC-5000 with NAVEX Quest: using advanced algorithms, this excimer laser can perform accurate surgeries with excellent outcomes. It creates highly detailed eye measurements that allow it to determine precisely where to surgically address, and exactly how much to do.
Can I Have LASIK?
At Brooks Eye Associates, we want to ensure that your LASIK procedure is successful. Aside from the legal requirement that you’re at least 18 years old, in order to be considered a good candidate for LASIK surgery, you should have:
- Good overall eye health
- Sufficiently thick corneas
- A stable prescription
- Adequately sized pupils
- Good general health
Plano LASIK Consultation
The best way to determine if LASIK is the right procedure for your eyes is to schedule a consultation with Brooks Eye Associates, where Dr. Brooks will examine your eyes, review your medical history, and make sure you meet the essential requirements for surgery.
If for some reason you don’t qualify for LASIK, you may be a better candidate for a different laser vision correction procedure – such as PRK or LASIK.
How Much Does LASIK Cost in Plano?
During your LASIK consultation, the doctors will be able to assess your eyes’ needs and can better inform you of the safest and best procedure to correct your vision as well as the cost.
At Brooks Eye Associates, we don’t want financing to stand between you and your Plano LASIK procedure. We accept payment via credit or debit card (VISA, MasterCard, and American Express), as well as personal, traveler’s, or certified checks.
We also accept CareCredit® for eye care procedures that aren’t covered by insurance, like LASIK. CareCredit® is a healthcare credit card, offering a wide range of payment plans that will allow you to pay for the cost of your procedure in multiple, low increments.
What Happens During Plano Laser Eye Surgery?
LASIK surgery is quick and virtually painless. To begin, Dr. Brooks will use numbing eye drops to ensure that all you feel during your procedure is slight pressure.
Next, Dr. Brooks will create a thin, superficial flap in your cornea with the Ziemer Z6. The thin corneal flap is folded aside so that the excimer laser can reshape the cornea underneath. The excimer laser will remove only microscopic amounts of corneal tissue – just enough to correct your refractive error.
The excimer laser will only be used for a few seconds, often less than a minute. After the laser is finished, the corneal flap is set back in place and will heal on its own after surgery.
Altogether, the LASIK procedure usually lasts about 10-15 minutes per eye.
LASIK Eye Surgery Recovery Time
Many of our patients return to work the day after their LASIK procedure, but everyone’s eyes heal differently, and you may need to take more time before returning to your regular routine.
On average, it takes between one day to one week for patients to experience improved eyesight; however, it may take one to two months for your new eyesight to fully stabilize.
